Becky Lucas: Little Bitch

Mischievous Aussie delivers a laid-back show full of withering zingers

It's a highly relatable comedy show that Becky Lucas delivers, judging by the constant stream of laughter throughout and the groups of friends turning to each other to nod their heads in unspoken understanding (or even just blurting out loud 'oh my god, you do that!') as Lucas tells of her misadventures.

In Little Bitch, Lucas liberally throws zingers around at school bullies and ex-boyfriends, often turning that scorn onto herself. Figures from her past come and go throughout the show, usually having been subjected to a withering kiss-off, which could become Lucas' Lucille Bluth-style trademark. Occasionally she breaks out of stylistic indifference to thrilling effect such as when she bemoans a world full of brats (and as she repeatedly points out she's chief among them) and – worst of all – Twitter trolls who get some pathetic, misplaced confidence from their anonymity.

Improbable sex stories, dating nightmares, and bad decisions made after sinking a bottle of white wine are the order of the day. Indeed, much like her compatriot Claudia O'Doherty, you wouldn't be surprised to see Lucas making the journey from this humble Edinburgh venue to a Judd Apatow production. Little Bitch is a solid and occasionally brilliant step towards greatness.

Assembly George Square Theatre, until 27 Aug (not 14, 21), 7pm, £10–£12.
