Each year, hundreds of comedians head to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in the hope of eliciting a laugh or two from the grown-ups. But some of them are brave enough to step out in front of the toughest audience of all – children. The List's Comedy Editor cherry picks a few of the comedy shows worth taking your young charges to this August.

The Topsy-Turvy Hotel

Joanna Neary (character comedian extraordinaire and the hyper-sensitive Judith in Ideal) teams up with Jody Kamali (creator of Bristol's Terry the Odd Job Man) to save a rickety old hotel from a mean-spirited Edinburgh property developer.

Delightful Northern Irishman Martin 'Bigpig' Mor brings his old circus skills to bear on this audience participation-heavy show which will be certain to make an adult or two look a bit silly. Which is fine by us.

Previously a spooky hit for adults, Australian John Robertson's interactive video game looks set to be a massive success for families as they get willingly trapped inside his Dark Room.
