Winners of this year's competition see their designs grace the front cover of the 2017 Fringe programme

The winners of this year's Fringe Schools Poster Competition will each feature as the cover for the official Fringe programme.

Three winners were selected from age categories including P1–P3, P4–P7, and S1–S6, by judges including the competition's champion artist, Jon Bishop. Six year old Helen Willder from George Watson's College, Edinburgh won the junior category; eight year old Tom Dolby from St Mary's School, Melrose, won the P4–P7 award; while Orla Henaghen took home the senior award.

The award is supported by Virgin Money, and, as well as seeing their designs on the Fringe programme – and viewed by thousands of people throughout the Festival – the winning three receive £150 in cash and £150 in culture vouchers to use to support their passion for creativity. The designs will also be available on a range of merchandise for sale at the Edinburgh Fringe shop on the High street.

Shona McCarthy, Chief Executive of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society said: 'It has been an inspirational day meeting our winners and their families and I hope that all those who participated in the competition will be encouraged to continue developing their creative skills and engaging with the arts. The Fringe Programme is an important tool for audiences and participants to navigate their way through the thousands of events at the festival and I'm sure that these three eye-catching cover designs will be enjoyed by everyone taking part in the Fringe this year.'

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe takes place from Fri 4–Mon 28 Aug.
