Chris Forbes: Tall Needy Mutant
An amiable hour about how we are perceived by others
Do you want to know what people really think of you? Chris Forbes put this request out on Facebook: 'describe me in one word'. He talks us through a selection of responses from friends, family and acquaintances. It's a cute, clever set-up for a show, and Tall Needy Mutant are just three of the diverse answers he got back, which ranged from bland to insulting (the reasoning behind one ex-flatmate branding him 'consistent' is strangely poetic).
The underlying premise here is the disconnect between our perception of ourselves and how others view us, and the many faces we wear in different social settings. And he questions why we jump to snap decisions and judge others based on stereotypes. Forbes doesn't actually mine the psychological intricacies of his premise with any depth, and instead he dissects his own personality on a surface level to happily chat about his girlfriend, mum and pals.
There are no big revelations, but crucially Forbes is funny throughout. He's a nice guy (who'll be familiar to fans of BBC Scotland's cop spoof Scot Squad), and you'll spend an hour with a big stupid grin plastered across your face.
