Amy Schumer comes to Edinburgh
Dragging along a global reputation and huge comedy talent with her
This article is from 2016.
The third part of a heavyweight US comedy invasion in August is upon us. After the all-too brief appearances from Louis CK and Bill Burr, arguably the hottest current name of the trio surges into town for one date carrying a whole heap of high expectations along with her.
Her cable sketch show Inside Amy Schumer cemented her reputation as a contemporary comic with plenty views to get off her chest thanks to some funny (and by now notorious) sequences such as '12 Angry Men Inside Amy Schumer' and 'Last Fuckable Day' alongside Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Patricia Arquette and Tina Fey. Her pop video spoof 'Milk Milk Lemonade' also has its admirers.
It should be noted that Schumer is not one of these TV people who fancy having a go at stand-up as she made her live debut on her 23rd birthday in New York's Gotham Comedy Club: her pedigree is undoubted, and hopefully the quality of her new material can match that experience.
Perhaps she is soon to be viewed as more of a movie star than a stand-up act, and recently Schumer convinced Goldie Hawn to make her first movie in 15 years. So, you know, it just goes to show that a person can't be right all the time.
Amy Schumer, Edinburgh Playhouse, 30 Aug, 7.30pm, £55–£105.
