Mat Ewins: Mat Ewins Will Make You a Star
Ire man delivers a frenzied seminar
Mat Ewins' show takes the format of a seminar teaching lucky audience members how to make it in the movies. Those familiar with the Bearpit Podcast (Podcast) on Ipswich FM will be conversant with the kind of shenanigans Ewins and his ilk get up to. For the uninitiated, it can be something of a steep learning curve.
His somewhat confrontational style of delivery goads the audience for not appreciating him while at the same time he constantly denounces his own comedic talent. It puts the audience in the strange position of attracting Ewins' ire whether they enjoy the performance or not. And it is a divisive performance: the repetitive onslaught of video clips are designed to whip a willing audience into a frenzy of sustained laughter, like a rising tide of increasing silliness but, if segments don't land well, it's easy to get lost along the way.
Ewins has a distinctive style and persona that will not be palatable to everyone and neither should it be. Fans of sustained shambolic antics with some crudeness and oodles of (purposely) bad CGI will most likely get a kick out of this one.
