‘Our egos have evolved beyond that sort of vanity’
Formerly one-half of musical comedy act Pistol & Jack, UK-based US character comic Megan Ford offers a sure-fire solution to the problem of live comedy back in her homeland
How well did satire do under Obama? And would another President Clinton be good or bad for American comedy?
The second that Hillary Clinton is inaugurated the patriarchy will fall and there will be no more need for satire. Just like having a black president fixed racism and we haven't needed satire for the last seven years either.
The British are overly keen on saying that Americans don’t do irony. Can you offer a piece of evidence that blows that theory out of the water?
Bill Hicks or Denis Leary?
Just like the media. Always pitting straight white men against each other.
Are American comedians bothered about winning awards?
Nope. Our egos have evolved beyond that sort of vanity. That's why we're better than everyone else and America is #1. USA! USA! USA!
What will Trevor Noah need to do to maintain The Daily Show’s success and reputation?
Stay pretty. ;-) <--- wink face
Tina Fey or Sarah Silverman?
Who? I don't know. I can't tell the girl ones apart.
How healthy is the state of live comedy in America? What should be done to improve it?
I have lived in London for ten years, so I don't know about the state of live comedy in America. But I can tell you that the best thing to improve it would be ME. Obviously.
Do Americans generally welcome the likes of uppity Brits (John Oliver, Tracey Ullman and Ricky Gervais for three) coming over there and stealing all your jokes?
Are you white? Do you speak English? OMG you're so adorable and quaint! Come on in!
Curb Your Enthusiasm or Seinfeld?
The one with the Jew.
Billy Connolly is widely regarded as the man who helped pave the way for modern British stand-up comedy: who would you pinpoint as doing the same in America?
I don't do stand-up, I do characters, so for me, answering this would be like comparing Tina Fey and Sarah Silverman. But ten bucks everyone else says Pryor, with a fiver on Louis if they're under 30.
