The Edinburgh International Film Festival has just announced a significant boost to its funding over the next three years.

As part of the UK Film Council's Film Festival Strategy, the EIFF will receive £1.88m of Lottery money between now and 2010.

EIFF artistic director Hannah McGill said: ‘The UKFC’s Film Festival Strategy has recognised EIFF’s national and international significance and our potential to grow.'

The EIFF is expected to use the funding for education, audience development and training.

The money will also aid the festival as it seeks to establish itself in a new slot in the calendar, away from the rest of the Edinburgh Festivals. As announced last year, 2008 will be the first time the EIFF takes place in June rather than August.

The Edinburgh International Film Festival will run from Wed 18--Sun 29 June 2008.
