Basic Training

Kahlil Ashanti has been regaling Fringe audiences with his comic autobiographical tale, Basic Training, about his time in the US Air Force. He takes time out to chat about his Edinburgh experience

5 words to describe Basic Training?

Inspiring, uncomfortable, character, interactive, true.

4 things you love about Edinburgh in August?

That’s easy! Mariachi’s restaurant, Elephants & Bagels, the buzz and the spectacle.

3 things you hate about Edinburgh in August?

The end of the Festival, the rain and black pudding.

2 things that are keeping you sane this Fringe?

Interaction with the audience at the end of the show. I shake everyone’s hand who buys a ticket and comes along. It reminds me that it’s not all about me. And my wife is going to be here soon.

1 reason why everyone should come to your show?

You have to see it to believe it.

Basic Training, Assembly Rooms, 623 3030, until 27 Aug, 7.40pm, £12– £13 (£11– £13).
