Fast-paced youth production despite large cast
This is how to do it.
A fast-paced youth production of Godber’s now well-worn play in front of a really good-sized audience. The rotation of performers for each character, as a result of a very large troupe, was a pity as there were stand out performers who could have been allowed to really develop the leading roles.
The play still resonates when working around the topic of weak and strong schools. At other times, the characterisation and soundtrack reveals the play's 1980s origins, yet without it becoming a period piece.
Given the heartache and disappointment that surrounds so many youth productions on the Fringe, this is how to do it. This is a strong show and any family audience will enjoy it.
