Drama (Hur Jin-ho, South Korea, 2005) 105min

When did those South Koreans learn to make films that are more French than the French? In this engaging offering, In-su (Bae Jong-jun) is called to the intensive care unit of an out of town hospital, where his wife is in a coma after being in a car crash with her secret lover. In-su befriends and eventually begins a tentative affair with the wife of his wife’s lover (Son Ye-jin), who happens to be as opposite to his own wife as is possible.

The question that hangs over this relationship is whether their yearning for each other is a straightforward and natural urge for love, or a desire to avenge their own cheating spouses.

April Snow is a gentle, erotic, painful and beautifully shot if ultimately unsurprising examination of love and betrayal. (Ashley Davies)
