Landscape, Seascape, Skyscape, Escape!

This article is from 2006.
Chris Dobrowolski is dissatisfied with the art world and builds elaborate and ingenious ways to try and escape the whole scene.
A talented sculptor, he has created working works of art, mostly from junk and recycled rubbish: a sailing boat, a bike/car, a hovercraft, a tank with a functioning flame-thrower, and a one-seater aeroplane.
The show is a trip along his escape route and uses film and slide projection in amongst linked monologues. OK, the slide projector is temperamental and the Super-8 film quality ‘Zapruderesque’ but this all adds to the enormous fun of the experience. His monologues have structure and they take us all on a journey. It’s primarily Chris’ journey but he draws you in and you become a willing passenger on the ride.
Chris’ attempts to escape appear to be an ongoing work-in-progress. Goodness knows where he’ll go next.
The finale is hilarious and indescribable, so I’m not going to even try. (Alistair Rutherford)
