An afternoon one-woman show in the back room of the Holyrood Tavern sounds awfully familiar: it was same the slot and spot for Perrier winner Laura Solon last year. A Spark in the Dark opens with a similar Solon device with an annoying mobile-clutching festival goer joining the crowd and complaining that the show hasn’t begun while passing yoghurt-coated nuts about and answering her phone.
She moves on through a series of well-observed characters with some great lines, including the chav X Factor contestant and a Greek footballer’s wife convinced of her own beauty. Whether Kyria has a prize winner on her hands remains to be seen but what she certainly has is a clever show full of crafted and invention. (Marissa Burgess)
