Dutch Elm Conservatoire (4 stars)

In Detention Facility 41, the lags have it too good. They’ve not been inspected in years, and Governor Duncan - who spent four hard years at the Italia Conti school before taking on the job - struts between the exercise yard and Death Row in hotpants. This idyll is threatened by the arrival of prison inspector Rick Rossovich, a man so hard he sent his kids to school in Beslan.

It’s a silly story, with characters nicked from prison movies, but the humour is creative and sharply-delivered by the cast of five. They’re fine actors - if a little too keen to step out of character and make self-reflecting comments - and the comic chemistry is such that what feels hilarious in the show now sounds a bit stupid written down. Go see instead. (Robin Lee)
