Moon the Loon (3 stars)

  • 5 August 2006

This article is from 2006.

In our celebrity-obsessed society we can uncover what our idols had for breakfast by the mere click of a button. There was a time, believe it or not, when we didn’t know it all. Richard Hurst’s production exposes Keith Moon’s (Chas Early) drug fuelled demise in the early 70s, through sessions with his therapist intercut with scenes from his tempestuous private life. It delves deeper into the psyche of the self acclaimed ‘best drummer in Britain’, breaking the stereotypes surrounding him and raising some valid questions about our perceptions of mental illness. Although the ropey accents can be distracting, Early’s energetic performance holds your interest. Definitely one for fans of The Who and celebrities in general.
