That the majority of listeners have absolutely no idea what she’s saying is evidence perhaps of the quality of her vocals. The refined, unashamed beauty in Julie Fowlis’ voice is what drives those who hear her back again and again. Growing up in the remote Hebridean isle of North Uist, she developed her singing skills by cutting her teeth on traditional Gaelic songs and now her mantlepiece is heaving with awards thanks to Radio 2, the Scots Trad Awards and others. She moonlights as part of dynamic sextet Dóchas too but for this one she comes to us undiluted, flying solo.
