Fringe by the Sea

There are many things that come to mind when you hear the words ‘North Berwick’. Maybe golfing, maybe the seaside, maybe that brilliant sweet shop, The Sugar Mountain, on the High Street. But for five days in August, an added incentive to visit is the Fringe By The Sea, a series of fun-for-all-the-family events. There’s music from bouncy carnival act Orkestra Del Sol and Gaelic folk singer Julie Fowlis; comedy from Maeve Higgins, Scott Agnew and others; long-favourite kids events like The Singing Kettle and Mr Boom; special screenings of extremely good European films such as Caché and The Lives of Others; author discussions with local crime writer Quintin Jardine and novelist Pauline ‘Mrs Doyle from Father Ted’ McLynn; plus numerous theatrical productions, guided walks and workshops besides. All that, and no jugglers on unicycles dishing out flyers, like the other Fringe.
