Jason Byrne

The Fringe just wouldn't be the same without our favourite angry Irishman. This year's offering is more hysterical rantings, more rubbish magic and the heart-warming wonderment of a hyperactive child. At times the energy seems to dip below his normal stratospheric levels, but Byrne always knows how to treat his audience to another dose of life-affirming offbeat madness.

Assembly Hall, 623 3030, until 31 Aug, 8.15pm, £15-£17.50; EICC, 0844 847 1639, 28 & 29 Aug, 11.30pm, £15.

Jason Byrne: The Byrne Supremacy

Total sell-out, 1997-2008. 'A bit like witnessing lightning in a bottle' (Edinburgh Evening News). 'Comic nitroglycerine' (Chortle.co.uk). 'Stand-up so joyous, the clinically depressed should get it on prescription' (Metro).
