Brian Gittins

It’s easy to see why Ricky Gervais is quoted lauding this roadside café owner character, as a glimpse beyond the scratchy beard, ill-kempt locks, thick glasses and Union Jack bow-tie, you can just about spy David Brent. There are touches of Shuttleworth and Partridge too as the show develops into a largely satisfying romp through a deliberately bad comic’s turn.

Pleasance Courtyard, 556 6550, until 31 Aug, 4.45pm, £8.50–£9.50 (£7–£8).

In three years on the circuit, Brian has written 14 jokes. He's run them past his wife, Cheryl. She said they were 'disappointing'. 'One of the best comedy characters of the decade' (Ricky Gervais). www.briangittins.com
