Gabby Best: 10,432 Sheep

A show about insomnia that is awake to some amusing realities

With exaggerated walks and playful mucking about with her hair, Gabby Best is possibly keeping herself on the move so she doesn't fall asleep in front of us. Stumbling through life as an insomniac (which explains the title) has led her to get pally with the local 24-hour newsagent's. But it turns out to be a one-way thing as is revealed when she sleepily attempts to say an emotional goodbye before leaving the area for good.

10,432 Sheep is partly an advice shop for those who do sleep well on the things you really shouldn't say to an insomniac. While describing herself as a Quentin Blake animation come to life, Best is not keen on the wisdom imparted by doctors who all too often bypass years of medical school by logging onto Google.

A whole hour about someone's out-of-whack circadian rhythms might tire most observers out, so Best wisely veers off into other directions, including painting one very amusing picture of her time as a waitress on the London Eye. That incident, about a wedding proposal, still tags her onto the underlying theme of life not turning out the way some people wanted it to. We can only hope that Gabby Best does find a solution to her wakefulness but for now, her sleep-deprived stand-up is a joy to behold.

Banshee Labyrinth, until 25 Aug, 6.25pm, donations at the venue.
