A rare second chance to catch some of the best shows from last year's festival
So you think you missed the best of the Fringe last year? Well think again! A number of hit shows will return in 2019 to entertain audiences young and old for a second, or in some cases, a worthy third run.
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe's 'big four' – Underbelly, Gilded Balloon, Pleasance and Assembly – will see the return of everything from dark and twisted cabaret, to award-winning comedy to wondrously daft shows for the kids. Here's a list of hit shows returning to Edinburgh this August.
Rose Matafeo The Edinburgh Comedy Award 2018 Best Show winner brings Horndog back to the Fringe for five dates only! Matafeo explores the meaning of horniness and, to a soundtrack of Fall Out Boy, Phantom Planet and Keane, takes audience members on a journey through her adolescence. Kieran Hodgson Three-time Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee Kieran Hodgson is bringing back his four solo shows and presenting them in rep as The Tales of Kieran Hodgson. Beetlemania: Kafka for Kids Follow Karter, Karl, Kat and Kevin the Beetle on a riotous and Kafkaesque journey filled with laughter. All ages will be entertained by the Kafkateers, as they tell educational (and fun!) stories and sing songs with the aid of puppets and more. Little Death Club Bernie Dieter returns with a dark and funny cabaret show like no other. The Weimar-punk jazz band soundtrack a night of circus acts, fire-breathing and more in a show full of unmissable 'miscreants and misfits'. Splash Test Dummies This family friendly show returns and invites all ages in for another round of their side-splitting production. The dummies embark on a water-filled circus adventure. Expect stunt work, acrobatics, juggling and belly laughs as the dummies get wet and wild. Splash Test Dummies, Underbelly's Circus Hub on the Meadows, Sat 3–Sat 24 Aug (not 12, 19).
Humans CIRCA's five-star production returns to take audiences on a stirring exploration of what it means to be human and how our bodies, our connections and our aspirations all form who we are. A team of highly skilled acrobats demonstrate the limits of the human body and its incredible strength and integrity. The Fishermen Gbolahan Obisesan's dense and powerful adaptation of Chigozie Obioma's novel returns to the Fringe for six performances only. A tale of brotherhood, vengeance, and fate unfolds in a small Nigerian town where brothers fish in a forbidden river. The Fishermen, Assembly George Square – Studio One, Mon 19–Sat 24 Aug.
My Land The show that topped the 2018 leaderboards is back. A new genre of cirque-danse, performed by seven ultra talented Ukrainian circus artists, pushes the boundaries of the human body and explores humanity's roots. My Land, Assembly Rooms, Sat 3–Sun 25 Aug (not 5, 12, 19).
Bromance Five-star circus hit focuses on male relationships, camaraderie and affection. The show has been described as audacious, touching and an exhilarating tour-de-force. Woke Two women, 42 years apart, recount their experiences of the American civil rights movement, from the Black Panthers to Ferguson. Set to a soundtrack of gospel and blues, Apphia Campbell's show nabbed a Fringe First award in 2017 and returns for six shows only. Woke, Gilded Balloon – Teviot, Tue 13, 16, 18, 20, 23, 25 Aug.
Gingzilla's Late Night Lip Service Award-winning Glamonster and host Gingzilla returns with Late Night Lip Service.
