UK’s premier Iranian entertainer keeps shaking that booty
This article is from 2008.
There are several downsides to modern fame. Being hassled in the street by ordinary people and getting hunted down by paparazzi when hanging out the washing are just two celebrity negatives. Having chirpy researchers from celebrity TV shows ringing up to ‘check your availability’ is quite probably another irritation. London boy and Hollywood star Omid Djalili has experienced that particular burning sensation as much as anyone, but in typical modest fashion is keen to maintain his ideas round about their station. ‘I do get asked all the time which doesn’t mean anything because they spread their net very far. They start off asking Brad Pitt and get down to me about a month later. In general, they’re wasting their time.’
For this year’s one-week Fringe run, Djalili is promising a stream of gags, impersonations, music and dancing. ‘It makes you forget the seriousness of life when you see some fat, bald man shaking his booty. It’s a very uplifting thing.’ While the man remains happy to dance, the celebrity-filled jungles, farms and ice rinks of the world can wait.
