Established in 1975, Talbot Rice Gallery is one of Scotland’s leading public galleries of contemporary visual art, with strong links to Edinburgh College of Art. It is named after David Talbot Rice, former professor of fine art at Edinburgh University, and is housed in university buildings on South Bridge. There are exhibitions in three rooms: the White Gallery, committed to contemporary Scottish and international artists; the Round Room, for installations and experimental projects complementing the White Gallery programme; and the Georgian Gallery, presenting a programme of temporary exhibitions. The gallery also hosts special events including panel discussions, storytelling and gallery tours.
