Les Enfants Terribles Theatre Company.

2012's 5-star, award-winning, sell out show The Trench returns to edfringe following its nationwide tour. Inspired by the story of a miner entombed in a tunnel during WW1. As the horror engulfs him, not everything in the darkness is what it seems and he discovers a strange world beneath the mud and death. From the award-winning team behind The Terrible Infants, The Vaudevillains and Ernest and the Pale Moon, The Trench blends LET's trademark physical storytelling, verse, puppetry and live music to spellbinding effect. Written by Oliver Lansley and featuring live music from acclaimed singer/songwriter Alexander Wolfe. All ages.

Pitch-perfect evocation of the theatre of war

Les Enfants Terribles have built a formidable reputation for playfully macabre tales mixing drama, music and inventive staging to create gothic fantasies reminiscent of Tim Burton’s oeuvre. The latest from the company’s writer Oliver Lansley draws on…

1. Oscar Fredericks5 Aug 2012, 1:31am5 stars The Trench Report

A gripping and engaging triumph of the human spirit in the tumult of chaos and insanity of WAR, The Trench was a trip back in time to an unimaginable day in a soldiers life that we here in the civilised UK don't have any comprension of let alone really appreciate at this point in history. The staging and tech work were unbelievable considering they had to set it all up and strike in about 15 minutes coming and going. Great job by a stellar cast and crew that made it all come alive. A companion play that goes along with the WWI them is 'The Smoking Boy" at venue 231. It is the other side of the story in many ways... Great stuff!
