Damsel Sophie is HOT
After a smash-hit tour of Australia, sold-out run at Adelaide Fringe Festival 2012, all-5-star reviews and a nomination for Best Cabaret 2012, Yorkshire Diva Damsel Sophie is back on home turf with Hot, directed by Alexander Wright (Belt Up Theatre and The Flanagan Collective).
Hot is a one-woman comedy cabaret inspired by the myth of Narcissus that explores self-love gone mad. In the wake of winning the Best Cabaret Award at the Adelaide Fringe 2011 and wowing audiences internationally, Damsel Sophie struggles to write an original cabaret after the whirlwind success of her first show, The Damsel in Shining Armour.
Damsel Sophie presents storytelling, physical comedy and song that celebrates authenticity. Her fast-paced theatre shifts from comedy to tragedy and monologue to music with the aid of the audience (mostly the blokes). Damsel Sophie hopes to leave you energised, slightly drunk and satisfied that you got your money’s worth.
At the very least she hopes to appeal to unitard enthusiasts.
Damsel Sophie is the winner of Best Cabaret 2011, Nominee Best Cabaret 2012 and was shortlisted for the BBC Radio Four Alfred Bradley Bursary Award 2009. She has enjoyed a string of sell-out seasons in Australia and mega critical acclaim. The Damsel is making a name for herself as a international power-house artist pushing boundaries within traditional ‘cabaret’. She is excited to be showcasing Hot as part of #LittleFest at C nova this August.
Alexander Wright is a writer, director and producer based in York. As well as working as director for Damsel Sophie he is also Co-Artistic Director of Belt Up Theatre and author of critically acclaimed fringe favourite, The Boy James. He is also Creative Director of The Flanagan Collective (William, Some Small Love Story) which is producing #LittleFest at C nova this summer. Alexander is also Associate Director of The Mystery Plays at York Theatre Royal and York Cultural Company.

Auntie Myra’s Fun Show As the legendary Jeremy Lion showed, reluctant children’s entertainers make for bleak but blisteringly funny comedy. We suggest that Rotherham’s Myra Dubois may be in the same vein. The Voodoo Rooms, 226 0000, 3–26 Aug (not 6…
