(Pairidaeza = walled garden, old Persian). We explore the historical context of a group of rare and magical 17th and 18th century Persian Garden Carpets, inspired by the arrangement of a Persian garden with shading trees, water and scented flowers. These spectacular Garden Carpets reflected an oasis of natural beauty in the arid Eastern steppe. In this our 29th Fringe selling exhibition, we show a contemporary Garden Carpet and collection of kilims (practical flat-woven rugs) inspired by Scotland’s own natural heritage, along with carpets and rugs linking the present with that ancient paradise. All ages.
