Such a lovely story, the acting was so dynamic, real tears, and powerful images on the very open and beautiful set, the costumes were also very beautiful, want to come back with my bingo friends group.

Absolutely mesmerizing! So much emotion, so many layers. I changed plans in order to go back a second time. I genuinely laughed, cried and remained riveted throughout. Bravo!

I thought the play was incredibly intense as well as draining in the sense that you knew that the s**t was going to hit the fan in Germany and this family, like so many others, was dealing with it in their own unique way. I was at once, overwhelmed with grief and sadness, and then struck with joy and comfort as I was encouraged by their courage and their unique ways of dealing with the coming apocalypse... a MUST SEE for superb acting and rich dialogue and insights by the wonderful cast... Covi Brannan was especially captivating as Addie...

Stunning! Exquisite! Jenn Robbins brings intelligent and powerful storytelling to this exploration of a family in the throes of the Great War. Diane Benedict's elegant staging and stellar performances from an ensemble cast aptly capture the tension of a family confronted with devastating consequences. The Smoking Boy interrogates the imbalances of power in familial relationships and examines our ideas and beliefs about war at the very beginning of modern warfare. Don't miss it!

Keep thinking about The Smoking Boy and gaining more appreciation for the depth of the characters and the nuiances of the writing. It was a bittersweet journey into the chaos and courage of the era with bits and pieces of life and love and poignant reminders that war extracts a terrible toll on everyone within it's grasp while, at the same time, can define and enlighten some individuals in inexplicable and positive ways...
Congratulations to Jenn Robbins for her wonderful journey into the hearts and minds of "just folks" during an era of extreme stress and extraordinary valour!
