Comrades
The late Scottish director, writer and actor Bill Douglas is best known for the Bill Douglas Trilogy, made in the 1970s about his own upbringing. This subsequent labour of love took almost a decade to realise, and would prove to be Douglas' final work before his death in 1991. Featuring Keith Allen, Vanessa Redgrave, Imelda Staunton and James Fox, it tells the story of the Tolpuddle Martyrs, Dorset labourers who in 1834 faced transportation to Australia for the crime of forming a trade union.
