Montreal-based The Besnard Lakes, fronted by husband and wife Jace Lasek and Olga Goreas, are an indie and folk rock band that have made three albums of atmospheric, haunting music.
The four-piece band, whose name comes from the Canadian Besnard Lake in the prairie province of Saskatchewan, produce powerful guitar synths overladen with the dreamy quality of Goreas' vocals, emphasized by the band's past collaborations with members of Stars, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and The Dears.
The group's most recent album The Besnard Lakes Are the Roaring Night was produced at Breakglass Studios, owned by the band's guitarist, drummer, singer, and songwriter Jace Lasek.
Tracks such as 'Albatross' uniquely blend vocal purity with a heavy melody, making it no surprise that the band have been nominated for this year's Polaris Music Prize - the Canadian version of the Mercury Music Prize.
