Bristol Revunions: Destination Adventure
Stepping up their sketch act to a new level
This article is from 2012.
The cool kids down at Bristol Revunions (quite a clumsy moniker that) have come up with a pretty ingenious avenue into their sketches this year. Not for them the gruesome donning of gimp masks or overly cosy slipping-on of jimmy-jams, as members of the scout-like Junior Maritime Rangers need to get their comedy badge by writing and staging a series of routines. That said, they do wield a uniform of sorts, in the shape and cut of Famous Five-esque khaki marauder gear for their appropriately-named Destination Adventure.
The crew (featuring three chaps and one chapess, whose femininity may be a secret to her co-performers, plus a bearded ‘leader’ who thankfully avoids getting too sleazy) is blessed with some excellent performances for a series of memorably silly sketches. Among them is an imagined encounter in the smallest elevator at the House of Commons and there’s a delightfully pervy spin on the Heimlich manoeuvre. Plus, they even throw in a welcome reference to wayward internet doggy sensation, Fenton. They might not have been nominated for a big comedy award, but they certainly deserve whatever badges come their way.
The Caves, 556 5375, until 26 Aug, 2pm, £7.50--£8.50 (£6.50--£7.50).
