Chris Corcoran and Elis James: The Committee Meeting
Not the slickest show of the Fringe but an absolute riot
This article is from 2012.
You can imagine that Elis James and Chris Corcoran's small Welsh village committee meeting probably hinges on how up for it the audience are on any one day. We are the committee members after all. On the day we were in everyone was full of, as they say in the valleys, bonhomie. Corcoran is the affable and (relatively) organised Chairman whereas James is the rather youthful looking centenarian Marxist caretaker Rex. Items on the agenda include the mystery of the edible knickers and a Mastermind championship between Rex and his nemesis, Vern the caretaker of the local conservative club.
It's certainly not the most slickly written show of the Fringe but it's an absolute riot. The flying-by-the-seat-of-their-pants feeling is added to by some hilarious hitches - James having forgotten his hammer prop and a glitch with iTunes means that it keeps getting stuck on Wham's Wake Me Up Before You Go Go at one point prompting Vern to a perform rather out of character dance to fill in. Fantastic fun.
