Journey through Christianity

Structured using the catholic liturgy and with more technology than you could shake a crucifix at, Rick Miller takes us on a journey through the beginnings of Christianity. There is a lecture, a sermon, a dramatic interpretation of the crucifixion and a flight with Air Jesus, but teetering on the line between stand-up and theatre, it seems to suffer from its indecision. You couldn’t have asked for a better setting in St George’s West church, but in a funny way it seems like it might have resulted in an enforced toning down. Some clever work with a video camera, some sand and a collection of plastic toys (George Bush even gets a cameo) make for the best bit of an otherwise self indulgent show. (Nicola Husband)

Assembly @ St George’s West, 623 3030, until 27 Aug (not 14), 8.45pm, £11.50–£12.50 (£10.50–£11.50).
