CA$H IN CHRIST

Dodgy doctrine

Leaders of the Sunrise Church, husband and wife team Bob and Fanny Comfort, take us through a sing-along sermon as they try to recruit us into a church where we can get rich in Jesus. Teachings of Sunrise include the need for women to be beautiful, the danger of free thinking and belief in a god for the 21st century; a God who tidies your desktop and helps build IKEA furniture. By design, the script is repetitive (no church sermon ever left its congregation unsure of its main message), however the audience loved joining in and for the most part, it was funny. I was left singing songs about Jesus for the rest of night; had I been brainwashed? Where do I sign up?

Assembly Hill Street, 623 3030, until 27 Aug (not 14), 9.20pm, £10 (£9).
