A medley of 80s energy and comic timing

Gill (Beth Medley), a pregnant Debbie Harry fan from Dudley, decides that before she can succumb to the responsibilities of motherhood, she must fly to New York and meet her idol.

With its chatty, direct approach, there’s a distinct air of stand-up to this play and yet Medley’s energy and comic timing, combined with Adrian Berry’s skilled direction, swallows up the stage so that, despite the lack of set and limited props, you can’t help but be pulled into the play’s world. If Medley can keep up this level of performance for the whole run, this is definitely one to see.

Gilded Balloon Teviot, 668 1633, until 27 Aug (not 14), 6.45pm, £9.50–£10.50 (£8.50–£9.50).
