The seemingly spontaneous nature of the release of their frankly tremendous second album, Consolers of the Lonely, might suggest this quartet, the brainchild of Jack White and his long-time best bud Brendan Benson, were trading in off-the-cuff sentiments. Truth be told, theirs is a scholarly, studied revision of the heady, glory-splattered corners of the rock canon with Benson and White trading big licks like Led Zeppelin and Lynyrd Skynrd never happened. In short, a full on rock show. Woof!
