Julian Lloyd Webber and the Edinburgh Youth Orchestra String Ensemble
Another unlikely Fringe debutante in the shape of cellist Lloyd Webber
This article is from 2008.
Five firsts at the Fringe for Edinburgh Youth Orchestra which breaks fresh ground this year with its new string ensemble of leading players, both past and present. With cellist Julian Lloyd Webber as director and soloist, its Fringe debut also features a new piece of music for cello and strings by Classic FM’s latest signing, Howard Goodall, perhaps best known for his title music for TV shows including Blackadder and The Vicar of Dibley.
Called And the Bridge is Love, it was written specially for Lloyd Webber, and EYO String Ensemble gives its Scottish premiere. Also on the programme is a piece by Lloyd Webber senior, William, an unjustly neglected composer who has been overshadowed by his more famous sons. Now patron of EYO, having been guest soloist with the full orchestra on two occasions recently, Julian Lloyd Webber describes the ensemble as ‘a wonderfully talented group of young musicians.’
