Festival of Politics

Annie Lennox

Meanwhile, over at the Scottish Parliament . . . the Festival of Politics is back for a fourth year and making visiting Fringe slebs really work for their money, as Simon Callow leads a discussion on changing rights for LGBT communities in the UK, and agit-comedian Mark Thomas looks at alternative ways of empowering the people. There’s a left/right heavyweight smackdown, with wispy-haired Thatcher-fan Douglas Hurd facing off Denis Healey, and headline act Annie Lennox ( yes, talky festivals have headliners too) who gives a lecture on the fight against HIV/AIDS in South Africa.

Scottish Parliament, Wed 20-Sat 23 Aug. See www.festivalofpolitics.org.uk or call 0131 473 2000 for tickets.
